Name: Massachusetts Wind Energy Areas - State Designated

Display Field: NAME

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: This layer depicts the two wind energy areas designated for community and commercial scale development in Massachusetts state waters west of Vineyard Sound. The Gosnold Wind Energy Area is designated for both types of development while the Martha's Vineyard Wind Energy Area scale of development is yet to be determined by the Martha Vineyard Commission. Using generic industry guidelines for spacing, these areas could accommodate approximately 150 3.6 megawatt (MW) turbines at full build-out, however based on further analysis for technical or economic viability, there may be siting constraints that would reduce the sites' capacity.

Date of last review: May 2019
